I now understand how it all hangs together! The Watts Linkage (the two bars connected to the chassis in the top picture) also connects to the DeDion tube via the bell crank connection. This ensures the tube only moves in the vertical plane and not an arc (a single radius arm option), meaning that the wheel stays in better contact with the road.
Still need to install the disc and caliper but starting to look better all the time.
Next stage is obviously to get this finished but the most important bit will come up this weekend when I fill the car with all the required fluids, connect up the battery and try a start.
I don't understand how it links together! =) Looking good, though! Can't wait to see it in the metal =) x
ReplyDeleteAfter almost every assembly project I've ever done, I've been left with a pile of unused nuts, bolts and assorted iron mongery. Have you got a suitable box (or crate!) to one side slowly collecting those random items? You will later be able to delve into the box and utter such phrases as "Ah, so that's what that was for" and "If only I'd put this on earlier I wouldn't have to strip-out the whole drive train and wiring loom. Again."
ReplyDeleteIt's looking good now Iain, how soon before it hits the road?
All the bits are being kept, and yes there are a lot of 'spares'!
ReplyDeleteYou need to see it to understand it Lou but it is looking good!
On its wheels in a couple of weeks I reckon but unfortunately there will then be the 'official' bits to get done before it is road legal.
